An initiative has created happiness among the rustic:

The most vulnerable area is Arrah Gram Panchayat under Nayagram Block in Jhargram district of West Bengal; maximum inhabitants belong to ST community comprising Lodha, Sabar & Santal.  It is scattered area due to forest and its typical and difficult topography which is more or less a plateau. There are 3062 households with 14483 populations. Main problems of that area are as: More than 90% people live here below poverty line. High illiteracy is the major problem of the area which impedes their standard of living. The area is arid with red laterite soil which accounts for poor productivity. The area is dry and drought affected. The western region is characterized by poorly developed agriculture and irrigation facilities. Forest is the one of main resource of the areas which is maintaining ecological balances as well as tribal people is depended for their livelihood. Drinking water availability is limited to wells and some hand pumps in these villages which cause scarcity in summer months.  KJKS has implementing a livelihood development project in this area since 2014. KJKS has an experience on construction of micro irrigation structure for ensure the second to third time crop at the locality. On the basis of experience the organization has been constructed 8 concrete check-dams at three perennial cannels with the support of resource organizations, individual & community people. Our small support has been brought few following changes among the most vulnerable families.

  1. 35.65 acre of land has covered by 2nd time crop through the water support from the check-dams
  2. Ensured the irrigation facilities for 2nd & 3rd time crop
  3. Increased number of working days in the villages
  4. Collective attitude has been built among the villagers
  5. Increased family income among the villagers by the 2nd & 3rd time cultivation.
  6. Reduced agriculture input cost
  7. Ensured the optimum utilization of flow water and utilized it scientifically,
  8. The structure has supported to recharge the ground water automatically.
