Back to New Life

Jhuma Bera is a small girl child aged 13 years, from Raghusardarbarh village under Majilapur GP of Contai –I Block which is near to the sea sides. . She used to belong in very poor family as well as she was from landless family. Due to poor economic condition she did not get opportunity of education since her childhood. To elevate of her family’s economic condition she used to help her father through collection of an abalone from sea and put up for sale in the near market to earn money.

One day she was taken to Delhi by her cousin brother to work as a domestic help where she will get 1000 rupees per month. At that tender age she had to look after the household chores, cook food, wash utensils, clean house etc where she was passing through various kind of abuse.  In the beginning she used to call her family from Delhi but after some 4-5 month she did not have any contact with her family because she had been shifted to another family through placement agency as well Jhuma’s family did not get any money because the middleman collect all remuneration from this placement agency at a glance.

After KJKS intervention we formed Village level child protection committee at village level and Anti trafficking committee at GP level with the support of Panchayat, teachers, ICDS member, local CBOs as a committee member. After starting of various kind of meeting, sensitization programme through CD show in these respective villages Jhuma was brought back in her native land by her family and with the help of police and VCPC because they motivated her family member to accept the child labour as a unacceptable in the society.

Then Jhuma is admitted in our Education Support Centre, which is child friendly where she used to get informal education and now she is taking vocational training to be empowered and self-dependent of herself.  She doesn’t want to get any formal study in the school. Now she is very happy because she has returned bask her childhood in her palm of small hand, she has been able to see dream through her sparkle eyes and she is enjoying love care and affection from her parents.
